Dunlop Industries Limited (DIL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Olympia Capital Holdings Limited (a company listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange and formerly known as Dunlop Kenya Limited), and is the only fully fledged manufacturer of vinyl floor tiles (also referred to as PVC tiles) in Kenya. Its registered office is situated along Nanyuki road, at the junction of Lunga Lunga road, Industrial Area, Nairobi. In addition to vinyl floor tiles, DIL also manufactures ‘Dunlop PS4’ Rubber Solution used for mending bicycle tyre punctures and a range of Polyvinyl Acetate (PVA) based adhesives. Competition for market share is primarily from imports particularly from China and Egypt (a COMESA member state) both for vinyl as well as substitutes such as ceramic and granite flooring. Also in this market, at least one other manufacturer imports rolls of vinyl sheets, which are cut and packed in their Nairobi factory.

The parent company, Olympia Capital Holdings Ltd (formerly Dunlop Kenya Limited) was set up in the 1970’s then as a subsidiary of a well known British multi-national whose core manufacturing activities included rubber products, vinyl floor tiles, sports equipment and adhesives. The Kenyan unit was acquired by local investors in 1996 and Dunlop Industries Limited was registered three years later in 1999 to take over the manufacturing business while the parent company concentrated on investment in industrial and commercial enterprises in general.

DIL’s comparative advantage lies in a strong established brand and the ability to supply a wide range of colours and gauges within a short notice. The company products are also associated with a tradition of quality.
